Engdaget Legesse Amede is an Ethiopian-German artist based in Berlin. He graduated with honors in 1993 from the Alle School of Fine Arts & Design at Addis Ababa University, specializing in Mural Art. His early training in Addis Ababa laid the foundation for a practice that continues to bridge cultures, geographies, and artistic languages. Since 1997, Engdaget’s work has been widely exhibited across Europe, Africa, and the United States, including Germany, the Netherlands, France, Ethio-
pia, Kenya, Italy, England, and the USA. His artistic trajectory gained significant momentum through a DAAD scholarship between 2003 and 2004, a period
that profoundly shaped both his creative approach and his personal life.

Engdaget has lived and worked in Berlin since 2004, where he continues to build a dynamic artistic career while raising his three children. In 2005, he completed a three month residen- cy program in Dallas, Texas, titled Red Carpet, which deepened his engagement with cross-cultural narratives and expanded his international presence.

Since 2009, his studio in the Wedding district of Berlin has become a central site of production, reflection, and community. From this space, Engdaget has developed numerous projects, installations, and exhibitions throughout Germany. His practice also extends into education, with years of experience teaching art in schools and refugee shelters, integrating creative expression with social engagement. Engdaget is currently developing several new projects, both individual and collaborative, including an ongoing conceptual body of work titled The Box.
