The Space Ethiopia (formerly Post Gallery) was founded in 2023 by Frehiwot Demssie, an art enthusiast with over a decade of experience working independently with artists and cultural centers. Leveraging her background in business alongside her deep passion for the arts, Frehiwot established the Post gallery in Addis Ababa. She has independently curated more than 25 exhibitions, including shows at leading cultural institutions such as Alliance Ethio-Française and Fendika Cultural Center, a space dedicated to cultural production in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Supporting artist presentations.
The gallery operates annual projects such as Her Story, which supports emerging and established women artists and took place for the fourth time in March 2026, and Fresh Voices, an initiative designed specifically for Visual arts graduates to provide them with crucial exposure within the art scene.
Now operating as The Space Ethiopia, the gallery directly responds to the challenges of sustaining exhibition spaces within the country's art scene, offering a vital alternative platform. The gallery has participated in major international art fairs, including Investec Cape Town Art Fair (2024 & 2026), FNB Art Fair (2024 & 2025), 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair London (2024), and RMB Latitudes Art Fair (2025). Committed to raising the profile of Ethiopian artists globally, The Space Ethiopia provides professional development programs and educational initiatives that support a resilient and dynamic arts ecosystem.
